With a heart bigger than the tracks he makes sliding, 5-year-old chesnut stallion Walla Walla Whiz is another Flarida barn favorite. Walla, also owned by Arcese Quarter Horses, has always been a strong title contender, but the wins have not come without challenges.

During the 2006 futurity season, Walla came out strong at the Ariat Tulsa Reining Classic, winning the event for Flarida. At the 2006 NRHA Futurity, he was poised to be a leading contender, but an abscess during the first go-round kept him from performing up to his ability. As Walla went through a long period of recovery, Flarida never lost faith that the little stallion had big things
in his future.

As the National Reining Breeders Classic rolled around in April 2007, Flarida knew Walla had another chance to prove himself.

But the abscess was still irritating the horse, and Flarida made the decision to run him without protective boots. Taking a huge chance, Flarida and Walla still scored a 229.5, placing third. Yet, Flarida still knew Walla had more in him. A few weeks later, at the NRHA Derby, Walla proved to the world what Flarida had known all along he was a winner.

Still, the win at the NRHA Derby was nothing short of miraculous. Just two days before the Open go-round, Walla suddenly was not himself. Flarida instantly realized something was wrong. It took three men to load him into a trailer and rush him to the Oakridge Equine Hospital in Edmond, Okla, where Dr. Kevin Kersh diagnosed the horse with a severe impaction colic. Despite getting some of the best treatment in the country, Flarida and family prepared for the worst. Thankfully, Walla had a spirit of survival like no other. He not only pulled through, but competed less than 48 hours after his brush with death.

He's a tough, tough horse, Flarida said of Walla. Not many horses could deal with the things he's dealt with, but he does it like a champ. He has the heart of a true competitor.

When the news spread about the near-disaster, all eyes were on the pair as they rode through the Gateway of Champions and into the bright lights of the coliseum in Oklahoma City. As Walla maneuvered through the pattern, it was easy to see that he was holding nothing back. As the pair finished the pattern to a thunderous applause, the score came in  a 231.5. Walla Walla Whiz was the 2007 NRHA Derby Champion, firmly securing his place in history.

In 2008, Walla proved himself yet again. He took second at the Wimpys Little Step Derby in Murfreesboro, Tenn., and finished fifth at the NRBC a month later. He also scored a 229 at the Shadow Oak Derby in Clemson, S.C. With more than $187,600 in lifetime NRHA earning, Walla's next big accomplishments will likely come as a breeder of champions. He is currently standing at stud in Kentucky, with frozen semen available through Oswald Stallion Station, and is booked full for 2008.

Dun It With A Twist was raised on the historic Cross Bell Ranch in northern Oklahoma. By $3 million sire Hollywood Dun It and out of the great Peppymint Twist, whose cutting earnings exceeded $260,000, everyone knew he was special from the start.

Katsy Mecom and Tim McQuay were partners on the flashy palomino and Katsy kept him on the Cross Bell Ranch near Copan, Oklahoma until he was a late yearling. The stallion's talent became apparent almost immediately.

Shortly after Tim started riding him, he was sold to Jennifer Easton of Stillwater, Minnesota. Later, when McQuay-Easton, LLC was formed, that partnership bought Dun It With A Twist. Together, "Twister" and Hollywood Dun It make up the Dun It Dynasty.

When it came time to show Dun It With A Twist, he quickly began to fulfill the promise of his great heritage. He won the Tradition Futurity. Next, he became the NRHA Futurity Open Co-Reserve Champion, scoring 223. In total, Dun It With A Twist has lifetime NRHA earnings of over $99,860 with very limited showing.

Dunnies Prescription

Perhaps just as importantly, Dun It With A Twist is proving to be phenomenal sire. As of 6/2005, he has produced earners of over $179,303, and multiple futurity champions.

One of "Twister's" standout offspring is Dunnies Prescription. This talented mare was the 2003 NRHA Limited and Intermediate Open Futurity Champion, and was 3rd in the NRHA Open Futurity. She also won the 2003 Congress Limited and Intermediate Open Futurities. This mare has continued to finish in the top placings and make the finals at many of the big 2004 NRHA Derby events.
